back on the wagon

Posted 09-29-2008 at 10:10 AM by cinnamin
I had a pretty rough weekend. A client of mine passed away this week and it hit me really hard--I chose to use my "old" favorite foods as comfort through the entire weekend. It was like I became a different person. I could not get enough, and it didn't even make me feel better. I was basically shoving down any high carb/sugary food I could get my hands on. I got really scared! It felt out of control. I am back on plan today and I feel pretty clear about how much low carb works for me. I felt like crap from eating like that, both physically and emotionally. I am hoping it didn't set me back too far in my weightloss. I was doing so well and everyone was really starting to notice I was losing weight.

First, I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. It can really hurt to lose anyone, family, friend, client - and it's normal to look for comfort. Don't beat yourself up over this. It's a normal reaction. You're getting back to eating right for you, the weekend is over, keep it in the past. And now that you've seen how it affected you, it's likely that next time you'll react differently to this type of situation. It's a learning process, after all. And remember, sometimes we gain after a binge, but a lot of it is water, and it comes off fairly quickly - sometimes.

sorry about the passing of your client. :(

i understand choosing to use food for comfort, as i have in the past. my experience with the old standbys, however, is similar to yours. i end up hungrier than ever, craving the same ol' junk that was killing me before, plus feeling physically ill and often out of control to boot. it's just not worth it to me. i still at times may overdo LC foods or LC treats when i'm stressed and forgive myself that, but i don't do the "real sugar" comfort stuff anymore because, well, it just hurts me and doesn't work. i end up feeling bad and five pounds heavier.

when you're stressed, it's a good time to take better care of yoruself. do your best to be kind to you.

Thanks to both of you for the responses. I have been doing great for the past few days--feeling really well again. I love eating this way--I have so much energy and I don't need to wonder all the time if my pants are going to button. I have been very hungry, but for real food--the sweet cravings have subsided and I am so back on track. I just keep remembering it is the journey that matters, not the destination and I am learning a lot about myself in this process.
